Subproject B01

Geometrical Structuring of Component Surfaces by Micro Milling

In this project micro structured cp-titanium surfaces are going to be manufactured by micro milling. The aim is to investigate this process and especially the wear behavior of micro end mills as well as the influence of tool wear on the resulting surface morphology. Combining the findings of these investigations, the micro end mill geometry, the coating of micro end mills as well as the metal working supply and the metal working fluid itself are going to be enhanced. Finally, a model for micro milling processes of cp-titanium is going to be compiled, which connects influences of the machine tool, micro end mill, process parameters and work-piece material to be able to control the resulting surface morphology. In the future, it will therefore be pos-sible to manufacture defined surface topographies, to increase tool lifetime and to further minimize size of structures.
